Visit a sign of village twinning with a real French connection
Visit to by Kings Langley to Achiet Le Grand in France
A French village welcomed councillors from Kings Langley as they unveiled new signs marking the twinning of the two communities.
Representatives from Kings Langley Parish Council crossed the channel to visit the twinned village of Achiet Le Grand in the north of France.
The villages became officially twinned in November 2009 in honour of Christopher Cox from Kings Langley who was awarded the Victoria Cross for fighting near the village in the First World War.
During their visit over the weekend of Friday, September 28, councillors were given a tour of the village and nearby sights, including the Thiepval Memorial which is inscribed with the names of more than 72,000 missing men who died during the battles of the Somme.
Kings Langley parish council chairman Bob Mclean said: “It was an excellent visit.
“There was a very good delegation from the village, they take it very seriously.
“We’re very determined in that we want to build stronger relations with them. We’re trying to arrange for Kings Langley primary school to go over there next summer.”
