Villagers step back in time at carnival
Cannons roared and swords clanged at a re-enactment of the English Civil War.
Redbourn Common hosted the performance by Sealed Knot as part of a major community celebration marking the village's 900th anniversary.
The showdown turned out to be a popular attraction at the Redbourn Carnival on June 26, which also featured the Blue Angels Majorettes and
Redbourn Players.
Thousands of people attended the event, which kicked off with a High Street parade and boasted dozens of stalls, attractions and a
traditional tug-of-war.
Redbourn's 5,000 residents are celebrating their milestone anniversary throughout the year with a series of community events.
Since March they have hosted choral concerts, family sports days and street parties.
Still to come is a battle of the bands event, flower festival and cricket tournament, among others.
The programme, held under the banner R900, looks back to 1110 when St
Mary's Church was built at the heart of the village community – which
numbered only around 30 people at the time.
More information about forthcoming R900 events can be found online at www.redbourn900.co.uk.
