Two taken to hospital after four-car Hemel Hempstead smash
Two people were rushed to hospital after an air ambulance was called to four-car shunt that led to the closure of a main road in Hemel Hempstead.
Police closed Leverstock Green Way at its junction with Woolmer Drive where the smash happened just before 2pm today, Sunday, as rescue workers dealt with the casualties. Woolmer Drive was also closed.
East of England Ambulance spokesman Adrienne Watt said: “One casualty was unconscious and breathing and the other was conscious, with a potential neck injury.”
Firefighters were also called to the collision, but were not needed. Onlookers told them that one man with a history of back problems may have been going into spasms and fits.
Although the air ambulance helicopter was called out, the casualties were taken to Watford General Hospital by road.
Firefighters were called later today to Wood End Lane, Flamstead, to rescue a man who had been trapped in a car in a flooded part of the country lane. They had freed him within 30 minutes by 4.15pm.
