Twinning trip marks French friendship
Tributes were paid to a Kings Langley war hero during a trip to the town twinned in his honour.
A delegation from Kings Langley spent Remembrance weekend in Achiet-le-Grand, where a wreath was laid in honour of Christopher Cox.
Kings Langley man Private Cox earned the Victoria Cross for bravery near the French village during World War One, spurring the two places to create a formal twinning.
On Friday, November 6, villagers, members of the parish council, and Private Cox's son, Ian, travelled to Achiet-le-Grand where they attended a memorial service and signed a friendship charter.
Cllr Gerry Angiolini said: "They really looked after us and they're very keen to build relationships with the people of Kings Langley.
"We want to build on this and I think it's a really positive thing for the village."
The two villages first made contact in 2006 and in 2007 the memorial to Private Cox was unveiled at a special ceremony in France.
