Tree could be home for bats

Wildlife experts are being called in to take a look at a dead oak tree in the middle of Manor House grounds at Abbots Langley before it is felled, the parish council has decided.

Councillors acknowledge that the tree is dead but want to find out if it is a haven for wildlife, in particular bats, before any work goes ahead.

Removal and making good could cost around 500, the council has been told. More money would have to be spent on buying two saplings to replace the oak.

The council is also being asked to consider a tree planting programme for the village.
