TORIES IN CONTROL

Friday, May 2, 4.15 AM. The Tories retained control of Dacorum as the votes were counted early today.

They had been relying on the casting vote of the Mayor to defeat a combined Labour/LibDem and independent opposition, but now they are assured of a clear, if small, majority.

They made six gains, winning two seats in each of Adeyfield East and Corner Hall, won back a seat in Woodhall they lost in a byelection and one in Leverstock Green they lost through a defection to Labour.

But they did lose two seats to the Lib dems in Berkhamsted Castle ward.

Conservatives now have 32 of the 52 seats, giving them a majority.

The turnout in yesterday's election was just 32.87 per cent.
