Top new exhibition unveiled
Wild, weird and wonderful exhibits are coming to the Natural History Museum at Tring.
Today fossilised trees, meteorite from Mars and a beetle that looks as if it's made from silver were just a few things to go on display at the Akeman Street museum.
The items in the exhibition are rarely on public display and visitors will get the chance to see and learn the fascinating stories of a whole host of highlights including: a bowler hat, owned by Walter Rothschild, that contains a wasp nest, a stick insect that was thought to be extinct for over 70 years and a 425-million-year-old trilobite that was made into a brooch.
Visitors can also follow a specially designed gallery trail through the museum that highlights some fascinating specimens on display, from the famous dressed fleas to an extinct Tasmanian tiger.
Alice Dowswell, interpretation manager from the museum said: "This is an exciting opportunity to see the cream of our collections. The Natural History Museum has over 70 million specimens in its collections, and we are delighted that we can display some of its real treasures."
A book, Treasures of the Natural History Museum, which illustrates some of the highlights of the collection, will be available to buy in the museum's shop throughout the exhibition's run, which finishes in November.
