Swimming clubs quick off the blocks

Berkhamsted's swimming clubs were quick out the blocks at the start of 2010.

Berkhamsted Barracudas took home and astonishing 50 County Qualifying Times at the weekend.

Personal bests and medals also came in their droves, as the young swimmers reaped the benefits oftraining right over Christmas in the adverse weather conditions.

Swimmers competing were Joseph, Ben and Grace Atkins,Greg and Phoebe Baxter, George Carter, Jack Filer, Elinor MacDonald, Alex and Euan McDonald, Charlie and Harry Ormerod, Grace Rayner, Thomas Rees, Toby Sands, Kyle Vadher, Ben van Vlymen and Zoe, George and Cara Wardle.

They all impressed chied coach Michelle Hewson who had only positive words to say about the squad.

"We have had a good run of training and it is very hard at the moment, so for them to achieve these times when they are clocking up the meterage is really good" she said.

"Some of them will be competing next weekend, where the club will be looking for more County times, Regional times and hopefully National times.

"The spirit in training at the moment is very positive and high, but also they are being really pushed and as usual they are rising to that challenge, and that is right across the club".

THE FIRST meet of the year for Berkhamsted Sports Centre SC produced 45 pbs, 17 club records and 20 county qualifying times.

Nine-year-old newcomers Jess Potts and Harriet Horwood-Jones led the way with 100m IM pbs and CQTs, Harriet also taking 200m back bronze and a CQT and Jess a 100m free speeding ticket.
