School turns into camp site
A school playing field was transformed into a bustling campsite for a fundraising sleep-over.
In the first event of its kind at Westfield School, in Berkhamsted, 200 parents and children enjoyed a sing-a-long, barbecue and camp-out, raising 1,000.
In total 34 tents were pitched with around 100 mums, dads and children sleeping over last Saturday (June 13).
The money raised will now be used to help pay for a canopy along the back of the school building to provide shelter for the children from the rain and sun during play time and outdoor learning activities.
Paul Reynolds, chairman of the WISPA, the school's fundraising committee, said: "We were very lucky with the weather and I think everyone had a really good time. The school has a great playing field that lent itself perfectly to becoming a camp site for the night.
"I'm hoping the camping night and barbecue will become an annual event - it really is a fun way to raise money, although I'm not sure how much sleep everyone got."
