School’s bid to get boys reading

A school is launching a lunchtime club for little boys in a bid to make reading cool.

In its first newsletter of the year to parents, Broadfield Primary School appealed for men volunteers to become role models and promote reading.

English subject leader at the school in Windmill Road, Hemel Hempstead, Leah Boyes said: “Research shows that boys are generally less capable readers than girls. In response to this, we are creating a weekly book club to help close the reading gap between boys and girls and to promote an enjoyable reading culture for all.”
