A SECONDARY school has received national recognition for its proportion of top grades achieved by pupils in 2011’s GCSE exams.

Hemel Hempstead School qualified as one of the top 10 per cent of non-selective schools in England where at least 19 per cent of its students gained five A* to A grades, including English and maths.

Every school has been ranked according to how well students performed by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust - a not for profit membership organisation that aims to raise achievement in schools.

Chief executive of the group Sue Williamson said: “Hemel Hempstead School should be congratulated for their stunning achievement in securing some of the best GCSE results in the country.
