A mum who survived ovarian cancer that struck when she was just 18 years old is now determined to raise awareness about the ‘silent killer’.

Emma Briers, who is now 35 and a mum-of-one, is hosting a wedding ball to raise cash for Target Ovarian Cancer.

It will see people get dressed up in their wedding attire and turn out for a glitzy charity night, complete with three-course meal, bubbly, a raffle, auction and musical entertainment from Planet Funk.

Emma said: “Ever since I got married seven years ago I have wanted to wear my wedding dress again and speaking to a lot of friends they said their wedding day was the best day of their lives and they would like to wear their wedding dress again, too.”

She is being helped with the organisation of the fundraiser by pals Kristan and Kerry Fletcher.

Emma, a nail technician who works from her Adeyfield home, was diagnosed with cancer shortly after noticing pains in her right-hand side.

But she said the disease often goes unnoticed until it is too late, which is why it has been dubbed the silent killer.

Emma said: “My aim is to make more people aware of ovarian cancer.

“If we get more publicity we can save more lives.

“In my case I was lucky.”

She came up with the fundraising idea after a chance meeting with a trustee from the charity who visited Emma to have her nails done.

The ball is being held at Abbots Hill School in Bunkers Lane, Hemel Hempstead, on Saturday, March 23 from 7pm. Tickets cost £65.
