Independent school Rudolf Steiner is celebrating A-level results that rank above the national average.

The Kings Langley school had a total of 20 students sit the nerve-racking examinations.

Tara Macpherson celebrated with little brother Tate, 12, after learning that she had secured a place at York University studying history and the history of art.

She gained two A grades in history and history of art and a B in maths.

Meanwhile, Floriane Gadsby is off to Ireland to do a two-year course in pottery.

He picked up his A-level results with proud mum Kate, who was over the moon with her son’s two A* grades in ceramics and fine art and his B in history of art. On the same day, Reuben Wachs collected up his AS-level results – he will be studying for A-levels from September.

The brainbox, who was writing up to five essays a day in preparation for the exams, got two A grades in history of art and economics, gaining 100 per cent in one exam and 93 per cent in the other.

“It shows that if you put in the work you get results from it,” he said.

There were concerns voiced by some school staff that exams were marked more harshly this year, following claims of dumbing down in 2011.

Bursar Carol Langley said: “We feel that the examining board may have marked down this year – but then that has been in the national press.

“We are pleased with the results and they are above the national average.”
