Firefighters were called out to help the RSPCA rescue a bird trapped on the roof of a derelict pub.

A pigeon was spotted tangled in netting on the roof of empty pub The Society in Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead.

Crews climbed up the building today (Friday) at about 4pm to release the stricken bird and found at least three other dead pigeons that had also been caught in the netting.

Dacorum Borough Council has been informed of the issue.

Giverny Foster who works in the town and spotted the bird said: “It was flapping about stuck so I called the RSPCA and they called the fire brigade as it was too high. “It was a lot of commotion I wasn’t expecting.”
