Revamp for landmark village pond finally goes ahead
WORK is about to begin on a village landmark after months of planning.
The pond on Bovingdon Green has been earmarked for work to restore it to its former glory.
Funding of £8,960 was secured from the National Lottery to revitalise the pond area which has previously been described as little more than a ‘puddle’.
On Monday workers will move in to begin tackling the site by clearing up debris. Then in the weeks after machinery will be used to clear and dredge the pond before planting begins.
Parish clerk Mike Kember said: “At first it will look like a building site with silt carpeting the area.
“But later in the year there will be more planting and as everything starts to grow it will start to look wonderful.”
Funding of £2,500 has been added to the pot from the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge after the Green was awarded special status.
