Pub is too noisy says neighbour

A Kings Langley resident claims she is unable to enjoy her back garden because of the racket coming from a nearby pub.

Virginia Gilmer, of Whitlars Drive, says noise problems have escalated since The Young Pretender pub - formerly Millers - was refurbished last summer.

The rear of the Hempstead Road pub backs onto her garden.

"It is right in my back garden. I can hear it even through my double glazed windows," she said.

Noise includes the smashing of glass bottles being thrown away, delivery lorries arriving and unloading and noise from the pub's kitchen.

Miss Gilmer said: "I can't have my back doors open or my back windows open at all. There is constant noise.

"The noise is there all the time and it is infuriating. I cannot go in my back garden because of all the crashing and banging."

Deputy manager at the pub Neil Hayes said: "We're very much a community pub and being a good neighbour is very important to us. We're taking these comments very seriously and have already suggested several ways to monitor and minimise noise including putting in sound monitoring equipment to check noise levels.

"We've also been consulting with other neighbours to get their views and are working with the Environment Agency.

"The lady in question has suggested erecting a 60ft fence which is not feasible for many reasons including planning regulations.

"However, we still remain confident of finding a solution to the benefit of both parties."

A spokesman for Dacorum Borough Council said several complaints about noise from the pub have been investigated but have concluded that there is no statutory nuisance.
