Police launch Facebook 'fan' page
A police Facebook 'fan' page featuring photographs of wanted criminals, videos, forthcoming events and a police blog is now online.
The official Hertfordshire Constabulary Facebook site has been set up as an organisation page so it can be viewed by anybody, allowing users to add themselves as a fan.
Web Editor James Garley said: "Myself and a colleague did a lot of research about using Facebook – and we both regularly use social networking sites ourselves.
"We've set something up that we hope people will like and find useful but do need their feedback about how we can improve it, and what content we should include, to get more people to join."
Fans will be sent regular updates on local crime trends and crime prevention messages on how to keep safe and secure. The site provides the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues via a discussion forum.
The PC blog or 'Plog', gives updates on new PC Ross Paybody's activities as he trains to become a police officer.
Earlier this year, Herts Police launched a YouTube channel, which can be found by clicking here, and includes videos on campaigns, safety and crime prevention.
The police is now exploring the use of other social networking sites like MySpace and Bebo.
To find the Facebook page, simply login to Facebook and search for Herts Police.
