Pensioners pledge to save tree
Pensioners have pledged to chain themselves to a tree which is being threatened by building work.
Residents have already stopped workmen from chopping down the 40-year-old alder.
But now they've mounted a fight against plans to cut back the tree's roots to make way for a driveway in Chaulden House Gardens, Hemel Hempstead.
They are calling on highway bosses to come up with another plan that will not put the 50ft tree at risk.
Two cherry trees have already been felled under the parking scheme.
But disabled Jean Scholes, who has waited almost three years for the driveway at her council home, says something has to give.
