Old town Victorian Evening sets the mood for Christmas

A traditional start to the Christmas season drew in the crowds at the annual Victorian Evening in Hemel Hempstead on Saturday.

The lights that line the old town High Street were switched on and the giant Christmas tree was also lit up during the event.

In-keeping with the Victorian theme of the night, Mayor Councillor Bryan Ayling and Mayoress Pat Ayling donned traditional costume as did Hemel Hempstead's own Queen Victoria, Maureen Bellet.

At the heart of the event was the Light up a Life service that raised money for the Iain Rennie Hospice and sees candles lit in honour of loved ones who are not around at Christmas.

Families were also entertained by local majorette troupe Blue Angels, children's rides and live singing.

Carols from St Mary's choir, mulled wine and the good spirit of charity stalls who braved the cold weather to raise money added to the festive feel of the night.
