Nurse shortlisted for award

A NURSE at the trust running Hemel Hempstead Hospital has been shortlisted in the Nursing Standard awards.

Anne Carroll made it to the final two from 200 applicants in the continence care category, where she is a nurse specialist.

"I was absolutely delighted and honoured to be shortlisted to the last two people," she said.

"I was disappointed not to win my category but in true Oscar-style we were all winners and had achieved so much to be shortlisted for the awards.

"Continence care is often not very high on people's agenda but does affect a large proportion of the population.

"It might not be life threatening it can be a very debilitating and isolating condition."

The awards, run by journal the Nursing Standard, took place at the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London.

Meanwhile, West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust has received a '40 Top Hospitals' award.

The awards, organised by benchmarking company CHKS, measure trusts against factors including readmission rates, waiting times, cancellations and infections.

Chief executive Jan Filochowski said: "We're absolutely delighted to receive this award.

"This is a real achievement for the trust.

"It highlights the excellent work being carried out by all our staff and reinforces the trust's commitment to patient care.

"The trust did not achieve the award last year and this is a good indicator of the trust's increasingly improved performance."
