No escape for speeding drivers
A hi-tech digital camera that can take sharp photos of speeding drivers has been installed in Hemel Hempstead.
The safety camera at Queensway is one of the first in the country to be upgraded with the state of the art technology.
Hertfordshire's Safety Camera Partnership is leading the way on road safety by installing the cameras at 28 sites around the county.
Highways and transport boss Stuart Pile said: 'We are the first partnership in the country to place an order for these fixed digital Gatso cameras.
"As with existing cameras, they should continue to make a big contribution to casualty reduction and will gradually be rolled out county-wide."
The number of people killed or seriously injured at the county's 100 camera sites has been reduced by more than 60 per cent since the Safety Camera Partnership was launched in 2002.
Each of these will eventually be updated to the new model which includes a secondary 'flash' pole and sends pictures digitally via a phone line, removing the need for film.
