Night of comedy for cancer causes

Two comedy fans are hoping to raise a smile as well as funds by staging a live stand-up night in aid of three cancer-related charities.

Joanna-Marie Stack and Jenny Corr have brought together a stellar line up of comedians to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Berkhamsted-based Hospice Of St Francis.

The event at Nana Bar and Restaurant in Waterhouse Street, Hemel Hempstead, is on Thursday, November 22, and starts at 8pm. The compere will be Lee Bryant, who also hosts The Laughing Badger Comedy Club in Hemel Hempstead.

Fresh from his television appearance on Russell Howard’s Good News, Marcel Lucont is the first act of the night. Next on the bill is comedian Winter Foenander followed by Mark Dolan, best known for hosting Channel 4’s Balls Of Steel.

Headlining the night will be Jeff Leach. This comedian, actor and radio and television presenter has appeared on Big Brother, BBC3 and The National Lottery during the last 12 months. Jeff also features in two films due for release next year, including one where he co-stars with Hollywood actor Brendan Fraser.

Joanna-Marie said: “All the comedians are donating their time to help raise as much money as possible, which is fantastic. All we need now is support from the public. There can be very few people who have not been affected by a loved one suffering from cancer. So why not come and enjoy a great night out while supporting these charities?”

Jenny, 25, of Homefield Road, Adeyfield and 27-year-old Joanna-Marie, of Crown Walk, Apsley, are organising the evening in memory of Jenny’s father David Corr, who passed away at the Hospice Of St Francis earlier this year, as well as remembering several of Joanna-Marie’s relatives who benefitted from the care and support of Marie Curie and Macmillan.

Tickets on the door will cost £5 or people who email Joanna-Marie in advance will be able to put their names on the guest list to be admitted for just £3. All the money raised is being split between the three charities.
