New recycle bins in Dacorum

New bins are on their way to recycling sites in the borough to encourage the public to recycle waste the right way.

The clearly colour coded recycling containers are more in-line with Recycle Now, the nation's campaign for recycling, and are currently being installed at 33 recycling points.

Visually, they will help residents to put materials in correct containers and avoid mix ups which contaminate the lead.

Materials that can be recycled include all coloured glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, cans and newspapers, magazines and junkmail.

Councillor Bert Chapman, cabinet chief for environmental services, said: "We now offer a good range of recycling containers for all your needs so please bring your recycling along to these sites. Everything that is recycled goes into making new products but it also avoids rubbish going into our landfill sites and helps our environment."

Dacorum Borough Council is currently recycling 48% of its waste and has one of the highest recycling rates in Hertfordshire.

The council urged residents use the sites correctly by placing all the recyclables in corresponding containers and to avoid flytipping waste at the sites as it can attract anti-social behaviour.
