Plans for 54 homes at New Lodge in Berkhamsted have been finally agreed.
A meeting of Dacorum Borough Council’s development control committee gave the go-ahead following years of delay.
The Bank Mill Lane house – considered a ‘local heritage asset’ – has been derelict for years.
Councillor Graham Sutton said: “I’m quite impressed with this development and it will make a big improvement to this site.”
Under the plans, which were delegated with a view to approval, New Lodge will be converted into four flats, alongside three further blocks of flats and 21 houses. There will be 101 parking spaces.
The works also include creating a series of public footpaths, including one alongside the Bulbourne, a cycle route, and solar panels on most homes.
Permission was granted to redevelop the site in 2009 following an appeal but applicants Henry Homes redesigned the scheme to address concerns from the community.
New Lodge sits in almost two hectares of land containing a number of greenhouses previously used for horticulture.
