Mullins missing as Tring look to push on

Picking up where they left off is key to pushing on for the league title.

That is the view of Tring Athletic boss Phil Casserley, who before the onset of snow had seen his side stake their claim for a top-of-the table place come the end of the season with a run of 11 wins from 14 league games.

He believes that there is much more to come from the team, who are second in the MSSML Premier Division, but is adamant they need to get out of the blocks quickly when they restart the campaign.

"We had a great run of form but we still haven't played, aside from a couple of performances, as well as we were at the end of last season" he said.

"There is still more to come from us and we always seem to come stronger in the second half of the season.

"Hopefully we can get going well again but they will be nervous. It's definitely important that we start of well again."

Tring's last game was a 4-2 win at Hertford Town on December 12, and since then the gaffer has had to keep his team ticking over as they wait patiently for a chance to rekindle their fine form from the end of 2009.

"We will be ready I will make sure of that" added Casserley.

"It's my job to make sure my players are completely focussed on what we have got to do to be where we want.

"Mental is just as important as physical preparation and that is down to me to handle."

The squad, which is hardly distinguishable from the one that won three cups last season, is due to travel to Hillingdon Borough next Saturday before their long-awaited top-of-the-table showdown with Aylesbury next Tuesday.

Although admitting that the game is 'huge', former Gossoms End boss Casserley knows that there is a long way to go before the title is decided.

"I don't see it as the be all and end all – if we got a point I would be happy.

"There are still 19 games to go after that."

Casserley will be without Andy Mullins for the crunch game – the veteran midfielder is due to miss their next month or so with a groin injury:

"We have missed him the last couple of months it will be great for us to get him back.

"His will give us experience and quality going into the last part of the season."
