Motorists put brakes on

Motorists have pledged to put on the brakes by signing up to a road safety campaign.

More than 100 Tring residents have promised to drive within the speed limit by putting their names to the cause.

The initiative is being run by Tring Road Safety Committee and Herts County Council's road safety unit.

The committee - made up of residents - was concerned about the number of speeding motorists travelling through the town.

Head of road safety at the council Theresa Casbard said: "They have done an excellent job in recruiting people to the scheme by delivering leaflets to residents.

"Many drivers signed up to the campaign and have encouraged their friends and relations to join as well."

The Make the Commitment campaign asks drivers to sign up to an agreement to look out for speed limits and to drive within them.

Those that join receive a welcome pack which includes a mobile phone charm.

An individual or organisation can sign up by calling the road safety unit on 01992 556800 or email barbara.crane@hertscc.gov.uk.
