Meet the golden girls marking a milestone
A town centre charity shop celebrating 25 years in business marked the occasion with dedicated volunteers who have been there since the start.
Four ladies - Margaret Wootten, Shirley Chapman, Vera Baxter and Jean Smith - branded the ‘golden girls’ by Cancer Research shop manager Theresa McDonagh have been helping out since 1987.
On Monday, they were presented with certificates of dedication and a specially made cake by Theresa, who said: “They are really the heart of the shop. They are always friendly, they have got great energy and skills. They create such a great atmosphere.
“We are very blessed to have young and mature people that work for this organisation. They are the key to our success.”
Since opening on October 1, 1987, the shop in Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, has taken £2,891,222.
