Man critical after car and lorry crash

A MAN is in a critical condition after the car he was travelling in collided with a lorry.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the smash on the A5183 in Redbourn just after 1.30pm on Wednesday.

The southbound entry and exit slip roads to the M1 at J9 and the A5183 at the junction with Watery Lane were closed while a man and a woman, both from St Albans, were cut free from the car by firefighters.

The man suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition in hospital, while the woman sustained minor injuries.

The road was re-opened by police at around 4.30pm.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Herts Constabulary non-emergency number 101.
