Man bottled on the dancefloor
A man who found himself being 'nudged' on the dancefloor reacted by swinging a bottle at the person he thought was responsible.
Luke Deadman hit Sean Meddeman twice over the head with the bottle during a night out at the Function Rooms in Hemel Hempstead.
At St Albans Crown Court on Monday, 21 year old Deadman, of Puller Road in Hemel Hempstead, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Jonathan Dunn, prosecuting, told the court the incident had occurred in the early hours of March 20 this year.
Mr Dunn said that there was a history of bad feeling between Deadman and another group, which was at the night spot, relating to an incident that happened the year before.
The court heard Deadman was on the dancefloor when he found himself being nudged by Mr Meddeman, who was with the other group.
Judge John Plumstead was told the defendant felt intimidated and struck out at Mr Meddeman, hitting him twice over the head with a bottle.
He was arrested later that night and admitted the offence. The court heard Mr Meddeman's injuries were not serious.
The court was told that Deadman had two previous cautions.
Passing sentence, Judge Plumstead told Deadman: "If you use violence in the next two years, you will go to prison."
The judge said on this occasion he was not going to send him to prison and instead he gave the defendant a two-year community order with supervision.
In addition, Deadman will have to serve a curfew to remain at his home on Friday and Saturday nights for the next four months.
He was also told that he must pay 350 prosecution costs.
