Lead the way to the Strictly dance floor
Nigel Hughes and Carol Palmer have both signed up to the Hospice of St Francis Striclty Learn Dancing competition 2013.
Two hospice workers are leading the way to the dance floor for a Strictly-themed fundraiser.
Nigel Hughes, an IT worker with the Hospice of St Francis, and PA Carol Palmer have paired up for next year’s Strictly Learn Dancing competition.
Both from Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead, they are hoping to rake in the pounds for the good cause with their quickstep and rumba moves.
Nigel, 55, said: “I’ve always wanted to learn to dance. It’s a real challenge for me as I am useless. I once went to a salsa class and the teacher asked me if I played rugby, which I did. It obviously showed in my dancing style.”
The Northchurch-based hospice is inviting other couples to sign up to the fun event with rehearsals starting in January.
Carol, 54, said: “I try to take part in a hospice event as often as possible and have walked over hot coals, shed weight in the Biggest Loser challenge and taken part in the midnight walk, but this is the one event that I have been longing to take part in.”
All participants in Strictly Learn Dancing will be encouraged to invite their friends and family to the grand finale and raise a minimum of £400 each in sponsorship.
Training sessions led by professional dance teachers Brian and Shirley Cusworth will take place over a six-week period from Wednesday, January 16 until the big dance night on Saturday, February 23.
For more information on how to take part, contact the hospice fundraising team on 01442 869555 or email fundraising@stfrancis.org.uk. The closing date for applications is Friday, December 14.
