If you’ve been holding out for a hero, there’s no need to wait a moment longer – the curtain goes up tomorrow on a production of musical favourite Footloose.

Talented pupils at the Astley Cooper School in St Agnell’s Lane, Grovehill, are staging the show, which has been adapted for live performance in the wake of two successful cinema versions of the story.

The original 1984 film provided a breakthrough role for Kevin Bacon as a city boy making waves when he moves to a small town and refuses to play by the rules.

All dancing has been banned because of a tragic event in the past, but he is determined to overcome the disapproval of the older generation and get people moving again.

A cast and crew of more than 70 students from throughout the school features Taylor Goodridge, Shannon Wright, Chelsea Weller and George Hannagan in key roles.

There are two performances planned on Thursday and Friday evening, and both start at 7pm.

Tickets are £4 for adults and £3 for concessions, call the school on 01442 394141 for more details.
