Hemel’s Comet safe for now

Hemel Hempstead’s Comet store in Apsley Mills has dodged closure for now but more shut downs are due to be announced this week.

Administrators have confirmed intentions to close 41 Comet stores by the end of this month unless a buyer can be found for the business.

Of these, 27 have been named and sales started on Saturday - the closure list includes Aylesbury and Luton - and another 14 stores facing the axe are due to be announced early this week.

Joint administrator Chris Farrington said: “We are very grateful to the company’s employees for their professionalism, loyalty and support at this difficult time and all employees will of course continue to be paid for all the work they do while the company is in administration.”
