MCHG 12-910 Six years old Sienna Hollick of Adeyfield, Hemel Hempstead, is hoping to have a special tricycle for Christmas.

The parents of a disabled six-year-old have launched a fundraising appeal in a bid to raise the cash needed to buy their little girl a specially made trike in time for Christmas.

Adeyfield parents Becky and David Hollick are hoping people will dig deep for little Sienna Hollick, who suffers from rare West Syndrome.

When her condition was at its worst the youngster suffered up to 200 epileptic fits a day, but a special diet prescribed by Great Ormond Street Hospital experts has helped improve her symptoms.

But she still suffers on average one fit every two to three days and the strain on her little body has left Sienna partially sighted, unable to talk and with a mental age of around 10 months. Mum Becky said: “Her brain regressed so far back because her brain was so busy having seizures it couldn’t focus on anything else.”

Sienna does not show much interest in toys and does not understand the concept of role playing games, but when she recently got to try out a specially-adapted trike mum Becky says her daughter’s face lit up.

“The smile on her face was just a picture. It was absolutely beautiful,” said teaching assistant Becky. “I decided that no matter how I did it somehow I was going to get her a trike.”

But the trike, which is made to measure and has special gloves to keep Sienna’s hands in place, foot straps and a rear steering handle, costs £2,078 – money the hard-working family just does not have to spare.

Becky said: “It is the first time we can get Sienna something she will really enjoy and it is a normal thing that every child has.

“To a normal child it is just a bike, for Sienna it is a whole new experience.”

So far Becky and David have raised around £400 through generous donations from family and friends. To boost the fund send cheques payable to Sienna Hollick to The Gazette, 39 Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 1LH or for more information email beckylaing1983@hotmail.com
