Graduate gains place in business final

A graduate from Tring has made it to the national final of a prestigious award for top student entrepreneurs.

Oliver Sidwell, of Christchurch Road, Tring, along with university pals Ben Smith, Chris Wickson and Alastair Lindsay will compete against four others hoping to bag the top prize at the HSBC Unipreneurs Awards.

The former Loughborough University students have created a website where students can rate and review thier work experience placements.

The site, www.ratemyplacement.co.uk, has around 3,000 members and has attracted big name firms such as Microsoft, IBM and Reuters.

Oliver, Ben, Chris and Alistair will be grilled by a celebrity panel who will quiz them live on stage during the final in London later this month.

If they impress and get the highest number of votes from an audience of 200 business experts they will collect the top prize of 20,000 to invest in their business.

HSBC head of business banking, Huw Morgan said: "There is no doubt that a new breed of young businessmen and women are among us.

"We are delighted to sponsor these unique Awards, in association with the National Council for Entrepreneurship (NCGE), recognising this new generation of future business leaders and the growing contribution they will continue to make both to their communities and the UK economy."

The overall winner will be announced during the final on Wednesday, April 23.
