Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning says there’s a steep learning curve ahead of him following his appointment today as a minister of state for Works and Pensions.
The move under a government reshuffle will see him working alongside Secretary of State Iain Duncan Smith.
Mr Penning was called to 10 Downing Street at lunchtime today where he was offered the post by Prime Minister David Cameron.
“I am absolutely delighted and am looking forward to the new role,” said Mr Penning, previously Northern Ireland Office minister.
“I have had a wonderful year in the Northern Ireland Office and will be sorry to leave, but am happy to be back in a department which has a real connection to the lives of my constituents and where I can do something that will benefit the people of Hemel Hempstead.
“I’m in for a steep learning curve during the next few weeks, but am really looking forward to it.”
