Golfers putt their best feet forward
More than 100 golfers took part in a record-breaking charity match to raise cash for Help for Heroes.
MP Mike Penning and soldiers from the Royal Welsh Regiment helped raise more than 1,500 in what was the largest field ever at Little Hay Golf Course.
The event on Sunday was part of The National Golf Club Challenge, the biggest amateur golfer charity event in the UK.
Club secretary Ralph Lane, whose grandson Sam Lane served in Afghanistan, said: "Help for Heroes is a non-political charity which helps wounded men and women to recover and return to the normal world.
"I am very pleased that Little Hay has been able to contribute today and I would like to thank our MPs and the local businesses who donated the prizes."
The main event was an 18-hole competition with prizes for both members and visitors.
There was also a raffle and prizes for the longest, straightest drive and for nearest the pin on one of the par-threes.
The winners of the 2010 National Golf Club Challenge will be presented with the Lee Westwood Cup, commissioned and donated by Wedgwood especially for the competition.
The final will take place at Belfry in the West Midlands.
