George, 8, takes on top job at his school
Broadfield Primary School headteacher for a day. Headteacher Matthew Heasman swapped places with nine-year-old pupil George Keen.
Eight-year-old George Keen spent the day as a grown-up taking on the top job of headteacher at Broadfield Primary School.
He gave usual Hemel Hempstead head Matthew Heasman a day off and even scored brownie points by turning up for his day at the office with cakes for the staff.
Suited and booted the youngster, who turns nine on Monday, won the chance to be headteacher for a day through a raffle at the Windmill Road school’s Christmas fair back in December.
As part of his day in the top position on Monday, George visited classrooms, hosted meetings with staff and visitors, read to nursery children, made sure parents were not parking illegally during the school run, patrolled the playground during break times and helped out with the morning assembly.
Mr Heasman said: “He had a really full day that I think he will remember for the rest of his life. I think he excelled.
“I have written him a letter saying he did a lovely job.
“It was a pleasure working with him.”
The headteacher now fears that young George has set a precedent by bringing in home made sweet treats for the staff.
It is the first time the school has had the role change event but Mr Heasman said: “I can see it coming back by popular demand as an annual event.”
