Gary Barlow: ‘Tring schoolgirl sang better than me’

A former Tring student was told by Gary Barlow that she sang a Take That song better than him.

He was talking to Gabriella Henderson, also known as Ella, who had just performed the band’s Rule The World during a live episode of The X Factor on Saturday.

Gary told the 16-year-old: “I have got to be honest there’s nothing I hate more than someone singing my song 10 times better than me. That was absolutely stunning.”

Gary Barlow and his band Take That released Rule The World in 2007 and it peaked at number two in the charts – just below former X Factor winner Leona Lewis’ song Bleeding Love.

Gary’s fellow judge Louis Walsh said: “That was a faultless, effortless performance. Definitely better than the original.”

He said Ella, who went to Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, is probably the show’s best female singer since Leona.

Ella’s Facebook page now has more than 28,000 likes, and she is an early favourite to win the show.
