Family members still grieving for a teenager killed in a car accident have set up a charity in his name to keep his name and spirit alive, and say their first fundraising event has been a huge success.

Ben Wesley, 17, who lived with his family in Meadow Close, Tring, was killed in a car accident in February while on his way to work.

His aunt, Mandy James, 39, of St Andrew’s Street, Leighton Buzzard, is chairman of the Ben Wesley Memorial Fund and thinks the money raised at their first event is a ‘tremendous’ start for the fund.

She said: “Ben was an important part of our family and his loss has left a huge hole in our lives.

“He was a 17-year-old lad who had his whole life ahead of him.

“To try and help with the bereavement and to try and keep his name and spirit alive, we have set up a charity, The Ben Wesley Memorial Fund.

“Any monies raised will be used for projects in which Ben was involved or loved or keep his name alive, such as a memory tree at his place of rest, sponsoring the kit of the football team he used to play for. The event was held in Pitstone as that is where Ben spent most of his time.”

The first fundraising event was a disco with a raffle with many prizes donated by local businesses and was held at Pitstone Memorial Hall on Saturday, September 15.

Mandy said: “The event was very successful and was attended by some 130 people and with the sale of entrance tickets as well as raffle tickets, we raised a little over £1,400, which was a tremendous start to raising money for the fund.

“We would like to thank all those that attended the event, that donated raffle prizes or money and those who helped on the night to make it such a success.”

The Ben Wesley Memorial Fund has a Facebook page, which currently has 480 members and can be found by searching Ben Wesley Memorial Fund. Any future fundraising events will be posted on there.
