Friday, Feb 6: Snow travel latest

All snow-hit roads across Herts are now open, police has confirmed.

Herts Police reported this morning that some roads in the county had been shut because of the severe weather conditions, including the A41 bypass northbound from Junction 20 of the M25.

But this afternoon, police confirmed that all closed roads have now been re-opened.

A spokesman for Herts Police said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public for their co-operation during this time."

Police had warned motorists to take extra care, clothing and provisions if forced to use roads this morning after more heavy snowfall across Dacorum.

Arriva buses were cancelled this morning and London Midland trains were subject to severe delays because of the weather.

London Midland said at 5pm today that it was now running two trains every hour in both directions between Tring and Euston, and that an extra two trains each way would run between 6pm and 7pm this evening.

London Midland spokesman Richard Lakin said the rail firm was set to review its restricted services overnight.

Claire Baines from Berkhamsted

An already fragile London Midland service has gone into complete meltdown during the snowy weather. Being self-employed, but needing to get into London to get paid, I have lost a number of days' money because of the utter incompetence of this company as well as continually having to apologise to various employers because of continued delays. This recent shambles is due to a couple of inches of slush. What a joke. Enough really is enough. Tempers are frequently boiling over at the stations and sooner or later one of their hapless staff is going to be assaulted. The Government needs to pull the plug on them immediately.
