Firefighters called to Buncefield

Fire alarms at the Buncefield fuel depot in Hemel Hempstead sparked fears of another inferno.

Firefighters were scrambled to the petrol and diesel storage site off Green Lane at about 6.30pm on Wednesday (July 31).

On arrival at the depot however, it was confirmed the alarms had gone off accidentally and there was no fire.

In December 11, 2005 an explosion at the fuel site caused a massive fire later said to be the biggest blaze in peacetime Europe since the Second World War.
