Filming brings in cash to council

Filming in Hemel Hempstead of a new comedy drama called Mr Stink is expected to bring in around £3,000 for Dacorum Borough Council.

The BBC is being charged by council chiefs for parking and filming in the town’s Gadebridge Park.

Crews have also been shooting scenes at an empty retail unit in Marlowes that has been decked out to look like a newsagents - but this is not owned by the council.

There will also be filming at coffee shop Tiki’s in the town centre, which is owned by Apsley-based Smiths Coffee.

A council spokesman said: “We are a film-friendly area and will work to meet the needs of the filming industry wherever possible. Where a charge is appropriate, we will discuss this with the filming company.

“Local businesses benefit from filming in the area. We estimate that the council’s income at the end of Mr Stink filming will be approimetely £3,000.”

Film crews moved in at the end of last week and filming is expected to continue for the rest of this week.

The one-off family drama, which is expected to be aired around Christmas, stars Sheridan Smith, Johnny Vegas and Hugh Bonneville. It is based on a children’s book by comedian David Walliams.
