Disabled explorer provides inspiration to students

INSPIRATIONAL adventurer Michael McGrath was the guest of honour at Cavendish School.

Michael, who has Muscular Dystrophy, is the only disabled person to have conquered both North and South Poles, and came to Hemel Hempstead to share his story with 230 staff parents and pupils.

Headteacher Dr Stephen Pam said: “The man’s brilliant and his speech was just spellbinding.

“He talked us through what it was like for him in Antarctica and how issues are only problems that can be overcome.

“He focused the speech on the need to learn from mistakes, to be able to go forward and the importance of a strong team.”

Following his speech on Tuesday, Michael presented the Key Stage 4 and 5 awards and then mingled with the students.

Dr Pam added: “Everyone really enjoyed it - it was a great evening.

“Everything went like clockwork.”
