Dancing dad from Stavros Flatley helps with Hemel’s Haven fundraising

Waiting for Video...

The dad from comedy dance act Stavros Flatley playing Air Guitar Hero with a giant yellow bear in an office block in Hemel Hempstead at two in the morning.

All is not as it seems for that is not any bear, it‘s Pudsey and this is not any office block, it’s Haven’s call centre, which played its part in the fundraising effort forChildren in Need.

More than 120 volunteers, family and friends stocked up on fizzy pop to stay awake into the early hours and answer calls from members of the public desperate to donate during BBC1’s live appeal on Friday.

The base is usually the holiday firm’s call centre but it was used to take donation calls for one night only.

The effort included Haven chief executive John Dunford who joined in the bid to raise more than one thousand pounds at the call centre in Park Road.

John said: “We think their vision of every child having a safe, secure and happy childhood is fantastic and fits very well with what we do. I am competing against colleagues and its been great, the whole idea is to raise lots of money and have some fun whilst we’re doing it. “

Volunteer Neil Hobbs went the extra mile and squeezed into a dress and wig for the occasion. “Even though I didn’t have time to wax my legs I did raise over £160 from the good people of Bourne Leisure just by shaking my bucket,” he said.
