A young dancer who appeared in a music video for pop group Ndubz has fulfilled a childhood ambition to launch her own dance academy.
Charlotte White, 22, believes anyone can learn how to dance and wants children aged six to 12 to give it a go.
The trained hairdresser has been dancing since she was 12 years old, starting out at Klics academy in Hemel Hempstead.
She completed a two-year course in performing arts at West Herts College when she was 19 and has hosted street dance classes for Herts-based Alter Ego Dance Studio.
“I’m trying to get kids off the streets because there’s been so much trouble going on in Hemel recently,” she said.
The former Longdean School pupil has noticed a rise in the popularity of street and pop dance since dance troupe Diversity took to the stage for television talent show Britain’s Got Talent.
“That has made street dance grow and people are looking at it in a serious way,” she said.
Starz Dance Academy is running at Apsley Community Centre in London Road on Thursdays from 4pm to 5.30pm. It costs £5 per lesson.
Charlotte, of Bennetts End, said: “I have always wanted to be a dance teacher from the age of 12.
“I just thought: I have got the qualifications so I might as well go ahead and do it. I’m really excited about it and obviously want it to grow into a bigger academy.”
Charlotte is hoping to launch more classes including ones for other age groups in the near future.
