A self-confessed gym dodger is training for a half-marathon in memory of her late boyfriend.

Michelle Noble, 28, is tackling the endurance feat to raise money for the hospital that cared for 26-year-old Dan Edmonds after he collapsed during a kickboxing fight.

The Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon on Sunday, October 7, will have extra special significance for Michelle because it is held on the day before what would have been Dan’s 29th birthday.

Michelle, who lives in Berkhamsted, said: “I think he [Dan] would find it extremely funny and would feel sorry for anyone that is helping me train because when we used to go the gym I was a nightmare.

“I think he would be really proud of me.”

Firefighter Dan, from Abbots Langley, was competing in his first full contact bout at Ignite nightclub at Jarman Park, Hemel Hempstead, in October 2009, when a blow to the head had devastating consequences. He died two days later in hospital.

Michelle said: “The doctors and nurses were really good. All the machines they have got there are amazing. They really did everything they could.”

The accounts assistant aims to raise a minimum of £400 for The National Brain Appeal, which raises funds for The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, and had been getting lots of help from her family and Dan’s friends.

Since Dan’s death more than £6,000 has been raised for the Fire Fighters Charity through an annual Christmas pub crawl.
