Cyber Monday - the day reckoned to be the busiest for online festive shopping – was a record breaker for internet retail giant Amazon.
This Monday was the biggest sales day ever for the global firm, which has a distribution warehouse in the heart of Hemel Hempstead’s Maylands Industrial Estate, with more than 4.1 million items ordered.
The peak time for shopping was 9.22pm and around 47 items were ordered per second during the Christmas rush.
Orders placed during the day beat the all-time sales record set just days earlier on Black Friday, November 29, when more than four million items were ordered. Black Friday is an American custom that has now reached the UK when retailers cut their prices for 24 hours on the day after Thanksgiving.
During Cyber Monday last year, Amazon saw more than 3.5 million items ordered, at a rate of around 41 products per second.
