A councillor has bid farewell to Hemel Hempstead after 18 years of representing the town.
Keith White officially stepped down as Labour councillor for Adeyfield West on Friday after moving out of the area last year.
He and wife Sue, who have lived in Hemel Hempstead for more than 20 years, have set up home in Leeds where they are close to Mr White’s mother.
He said: “It was a privilege to represent Adeyfield for so long, to be on the council for so long and to twice be the only Labour councillor to hold his seat in the elections.”
Mr White, who was first elected to Dacorum Borough Council in May 1995, wants a by-election to be held promptly and said: “I think there is a long way for Hemel to go now. There is a lot of change necessary and I just hope the council has the imagination over the next 10 years to make those things happen.”
As part of his work as councillor, Mr White said he was proud to be part of the group that established Mediation Hertfordshire and homelessness charity DENS and said the biggest disappointment during his political career was the closure of the Pavilion.
