Construction finishes on Watford emergency unit
The keys to the new acute admissions unit at Watford General Hospital were handed over on Monday.
Construction work on the unit is complete and now it will be stocked with equipment in preparation for its opening in March next year.
The 120-bedded unit is attached to the existing casualty department and it will deal with emergency cases, offering scans and treatment in a far more efficient way.
When it opens the A&E department at Hemel Hempstead Hospital will close, leaving the town with an urgent care centre dealing with minor injuries.
Thomas Hanahoe, chairman of West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust, said of the Watford unit: "I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in getting the project to this significant milestone.
"When the unit opens in spring next year it will provide quicker treatment to emergency patients in a state of the art facility.
"In short, it will mean better treatment for the patients of west Hertfordshire."
