Companies see red over double yellow lines
Firms are up in arms over a crackdown on parking on an industrial estate.
Enforcement officers were out putting tickets on cars in Wood Lane this week after warning workers to find somewhere else to park.
Anjum Hussain, of Amberside Unit-based accountants Farrell and Co said: "They haven't been enforcing restrictions for the last decade.
"For a number of years, approximately 15 cars have parked on the grass verge each day, and removal of this facility will cause significant inconvenience."
He added: "I am sure that almost every occupier and business rates payer would object to this, and I am prepared to campaign against it."
Mr Hussain has contacted local councillors and MP Mike Penning about the issue asking for the enforcement to be delayed until occupiers have been properly consulted.
"Parking here is really tight," said Mr Hussain. "Rarely would you find more than one space. I can't understand why they want to impose it now."
Martin Forbes, of 5 Star Accident Repair Centre, said he supported parking restrictions at road junctions but the council had been too zealous. "They will be enforcing on the yellow lines and on the grass verge," he said.
Mr Forbes added that his business relied on having a high turnover of cars to repair but that transporters could not now park on the roadside to unload.
Tony Porter, managing director of EK Print, said: "When people come to see us, staff have got to park elsewhere, which will cost me. They are sitting in their cars waiting to pounce on people."
Jen Wells, a spokesman for Dacorum Council confirmed a traffic order had been made covering the yellow lines and verges. She added: "If there is to be more consultation, then the county council needs to decide that.
And a Herts County Council spokesman John Camp said: "Once the lines have been painted the responsibility for their upkeep falls to the borough council."
